A wonderful experience! 5 estrellas

At first we wondered where we were arriving after opening the main gates and then bumping along a track across the countryside to Carmen’s main gate, but from then on we were sold over. Her enthusiastic welcome, the beautifully appointed house, roaring fire and comfortable room convinced us. The robust evening meals and fortifying breakfasts then became the highpoints. You have to skip eating lunch to leave room for her tasty soups, vegetable stews, jabali with almonds, etc etc. The meals ended perfectly with an infusion sitting in front of the fire washed down with one of her ‘fruit’ liqueurs including one from acorns (bellota). In the mornings and evenings you appreciated the bumpy roadway, as your slow progress gave you ample opportunity to study the deer in the grounds. Palacio Viejo de las Corchuelas has everything from a charming attentive hard working hostess to humming birds in the bushes at the end of the day to vultures & eagles overhead and of course helped along by great food. It was a great escape to the country.
